Laoshan Mountain (崂山), located in Qingdao, is divided into four main routes: South, North, Central, and a sea sightseeing route. Among them, the South Route stands out for its breathtaking coastal scenery and classic attractions. This one-day itinerary takes you through the best of the South Route, including Yangkou (仰口), Qingshan Fishing Village (青山渔村), Taiqing (太清), Bashui River (八水河), and the scenic Coastal Road (醉美环海公路).. Whether you’re looking to hike the mountain, enjoy the sea views, or immerse yourself in Taoist culture, this guide will help you explore the beauty of Laoshan.
1. Yangkou Scenic Area (仰口景区)
Start your journey by navigating to the ticket office of Yangkou Scenic Area. Parking is free for private cars. Yangkou Scenic Area is considered the traditional heart of Laoshan. The mountain itself isn’t very tall, but the scenery is exceptionally beautiful. Above, you have the peaks, while below, you’ll find Yangkou Beach. In the summer, you can enjoy both the mountain and the sea. The highest point in Yangkou is Tianyuan (天苑), a large viewing platform where you can see the mesmerizing horizon where the sky meets the sea.
2. Qingshan Fishing Village (青山渔村)
After visiting Yangkou, take Bus 618 or the scenic shuttle to Qingshan Fishing Village. Private vehicles are not allowed here. Qingshan Fishing Village is renowned as one of the most beautiful fishing villages in China. With its red-tiled roofs, lush green trees, blue sea, and clear skies, it’s a photographer’s paradise. Every snapshot captures both the landscape and the local charm.
3. Taiqing Scenic Area (太清景区)
Directly opposite the entrance to Qingshan Fishing Village is the entrance to the Taiqing Scenic Area. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on one, this area is known as “Little Jiangnan” for its year-round spring-like climate. Taiqing is also the most culturally significant area in Laoshan, deeply rooted in Taoism. It’s a must-visit for anyone exploring the mountain.
4. Bashui River (八水河)
Next, head to the Bashui River Scenic Area. This spot features the famous “No.1 Inscription of the Sea and Mountain” stone carving, a popular photo spot. During the rainy season, the waterfalls cascade down dramatically, offering an impressive sight. You’ll need to take the shuttle from the Yako Station (垭口站) to reach this area.
5. Scenic Coastal Road (醉美环海公路)
End your tour with a drive along the Coastal Road, which has gone viral on social media for its picturesque beauty. The road offers stunning views of the sea and the mountains, with dramatic curves along the coast. From the Liqing Scenic Area (流清景区), you can follow this scenic route all the way back to the city.
